Drag Queen Violet Chachki Talked About Indian Drag Culture

Jason Dardo, known by the stage name of Violet Chachki is an American drag queen, burlesque dancer, TV personality, modern and many more. She is known for winning the seventh season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Chachki is the first international drag queen to have ever performed in India and always at Kitty Su at The Lalit. Kitty Su is one of the India’s best nightclub and a safe haven for gay and queer people. You can meet new members from the community while enjoying the Saturday night. Chachki is back in India to perform in New Delhi and Mumbai to celebrate the fourth anniversary of Kitty Su. She also have a plans to take out some time to explore fashion markets of India where she will be sourcing fabrics and embellishments for her costumes.

Drag has existed as a sub-culture in India and it still on its early stage but sure shift in mindset in acceptance for the LGBTQ+ community. She said in an interview with Vogue “You can tell people that the drag here is very new and heavily influenced by the United States and Europe. The drag culture in the states is very rich and has a lot of history behind it. I would love to see queens here really embrace the rich Indian Culture – there is so much beauty, so much glamour, history and so many stories to tell here in India. I’m excited to see where the Indian drag scene goes next in upcoming years.”


She was an art school dropout and has previously worked in various food service jobs in Georgia, Atlanta. Drag was not just been hobby but serves a creative emotional purpose in her life. Nowadays, she travels around the world for her shows.
